Draco Malfoy : The misunderstood

“Red hair, and a hand- me- down robe. You must be a Weasley!” This is the infamous line by which Malfoy was portrayed as a snobby, narcissistic wizard who was an ardent classist. His distaste towards Harry and his friends throughout the story makes one believe that he, like his father, is a devotee of the Dark Lord.
However, it took seven books for Malfoy to realise that he was on the wrong side. His persona and actions do a complete 360 in The Deathly Hallows . He finds himself forcefully on the side of the Dark Lord, as Voldemort threatens the wellbeing of his family. It is seen that he also did not have it in him to kill Dumbledore or give away Harry to the Death Eaters. In the last part Malfoy cried several times to show his human side and how all this was greatly affecting him. In addition to this, Draco only became a Death Eater because his father was one before he was born. Infact, his wand was made of Unicorn hair, which is the purest form of magic, showing he never truly was evil. In Spite of showing a great deal of distaste towards muggles throughout the series, he was friends with moaning Myrtle, who before her demise was muggle born.
The focus on Harry Potter’s character was so powerful throughout the series it overshadowed almost every other character. Due to this one often fails to dig deeper and truly understand Malfoys personality; resulting in people often missing out on one of the greatest character developments of all time.
From a cocky, spoiled child in The Sorcerer's Stone to a lonely, heartbroken widower taking care of his son in The Cursed Child , it can be deduced that Draco Malfoy’s character was the most evolved and misunderstood character in the Harry Potter franchise.
